Our Story

Mela Tandoori Kitchen, or simply “Mela,” is the culmination of three generations’ worth of love and dedication to providing the San Francisco Bay Area community with the finest overall Indian & Pakistani Dinner experience — a true labor of love that pre-dates our existence here in San Francisco, the vision our grandfather set forth in India, brought here by our father in 1988, and now run by a trio of third generation restauranteur brothers. Mela is our life’s work, served nightly with utmost care and attention to the minute details, on a warm platter to tingle your palate and soothe your senses. We are the epitome of the phrase “family run business,” as each one of us shares in the responsibilities and manages a different facet of the daily rigors. 

 

Moiz, our head chef, is the force behind the execution of our family recipes as well as the creative guide responsible for many new and decidedly popular fusion offerings on our oft-updated menu. 

 

Sohel and Zoaib share in the responsibilities of making sure the front-of-the-house operations run as smoothly and effortlessly as our guests’ expectations. The dedication to customer service and the fun and quirky ambiance is sure to rival the quality of the food itself which has garnered numerous accolades over our 30-plus years.
